About the Artist
My painting style is based on what I love and find endlessly fascinating – light, color and the unconscious feelings they arouse in me. The inspiration for my art comes from so many places, beginning with my childhood memories of Miami, Florida, where I grew up. It was a place of sensuality, tropical colors, and people of different nationalities and cultures – a place of vibrant, beautifully adorned Latino women and those around them. I try to recreate in my paintings the feelings that these experiences aroused in me – the joy of being alive, of being able to experience the intensity of color and light all around me, and the experience and joy of being a woman.

Travels to museums in Italy and France greatly influenced my painting style. I was completely drawn to the expressiveness of the Post-Impressionists, the colors and subjects of Matisse and Van Gogh, the sensuality of Gauguin and Lautrec. These painters spoke to me in ways that went beyond words and explanations. And this is what I try to achieve in my own way with my paintings…feelings that can’t be explained, only experienced viscerally. It’s only paint on canvas; yet, miraculously, it can provoke feelings of being alive. This is what I try to achieve. Currently I am working on a series of abstract women using mixed media, materials and anything I can think of! I use live models for inspiration and then go from there. It’s great fun. My studio is open anytime to just come and look around!
